A Human Library is an event where students get to “borrow” people for a conversation. This would be an excellent opportunity to allow our incoming Freshmores to explore the human side of SUTD life. Previously I’ve done 3 other Human Libraries and student feedback was great! We had Professors, researchers and seniors to share their experiences.

As part of the program, we would need to have a biography of our books as students will be able to see who they will be “borrowing”. The bio should provide some idea of what sort of conversation you would like to have with the students.

This year, it is part of discovery week and it’s objectives is to allow Freshmores to see the people and characters behind SUTD

  3. Collate biographies of books and create sign-up form
  4. Ensure Sign-up form is clear and all Freshmores know this is happening so they can sign up
  5. Actual day facilitation and documentation
  6. Post-event documents

Dear XX,

I am Qing Ze, currently a Junior from ESD. I’ve taken up the challenge of organising “Discovery Week” for the incoming Freshmore batch. Thank you very much for agreeing to be a “book” for the Human Library! [introduce yourself instead]

The event is set to be held on 22nd May, 1530-1800, at the Campus Center. There will be student facilitators roaming during the event to ensure both “books” and participants are comfortable during the event.

I’ve included some examples of SUTD Professors’ bios that took part in previous iterations of the Human Library. May I suggest talking about some of your work on managing LKYCIC, your work in the National Arts Council and time as an ambassador? I think students would be interested to hear about your time in public service. (I personally would!)

Bios used previously
1. Discover the philosophy behind the MIT/SUTD collaboration by meeting the man in charge of it! Prof X will be leaving for the US next week so this might be the last chance to catch him!

2. Started working-life as a journalist in the Today paper but decided to step into the academic world. Now he is exploring translation as a career. Come hear his journey on transforming the self

3. Discover his experience as a senior Engineer and come hear what the future of the engineering curriculum might be like from the man trying to change the way it is taught

Thank you!
